You could export user point maps (coordinates and values) to a text file (xml-based or csv-like). I believe this would be supported by other programs.

The red distance line cannot be saved in a session, because "line measurement" is just a tool mode (just like zoom and pan modes). You can however create a user point map with the two (or more) points...

The map may look squeezed/stretched depending on the projection, but the coordinates of map corners should match and should be accurate. Best, Maciej
